Range Rover Classic is a 4x4 Sport utility vehicle series produced initially by the Rover division of British Leyland, and latterly the Rover Group from 1970 to 1996. The first generation produced under the Range Rover name, it debuted as a 2-door. a 4-door became available in 1981, with the 2-door phased out in January 1994. For most of its history it was known simply as the Range Rover. Land Rover coined the term Range Rover Classic to distinguish it from the P38A which succeeded it when the two were briefly built alongside, and applied the name retrospectively to all first-generation Range Rovers.
